We couldn't make the opening night for this performance, and I didn't think we'd be able to see it at all. However, they ran a Facebook promotion, and by simply "liking" one of their pictures, I was able to win two tickets to this show! It became a quick impromptu date night (the best kind, sometimes)! Getting High This one-act hyper-realistic show featured some amazing characters, putting their four brain cells together to come up with a heist that will make them their millions, so they can keep spending cash on drugs, drugs and more drugs to keep their highs going. The scheme involves ATM machines, stealing wallets, doing good deeds, and a pretty boy to cause a distraction. Throughout the one act, we see the planning, the execution and the aftermath of this scheme. Parts of the action were thoroughly predictable, once you realize what these characters were capable of, and other parts had us leaping off our seats! Each character is so absolutely beyond help and beyond hope that they can barely continue a conversation with each other without resorting to violence or physical altercations. Honestly, I'm glad we've seen these four actors in other roles and other plays. They were so intense in these roles, that it's hard to imagine bumping into them in a dark alley. They were all completely unsavoury and complete bastards, really. But they were all still quite human, in their own twisted ways. They approached their roles with intensity and dedication - spit, burns and all. We've seen productions by Ground Zero Theatre before, and were not disappointed in this bizarrely violent and intense production. www.groundzerotheatre.ca
